HAWP
Define a task once. Carry its intent across agents and sessions.
HAWP (Human-AI Workflow Protocol) is an open-source Markdown method for defining human-led AI work. Five fields record the request, context, mission, constraints, and expected output so a task can be reviewed and carried across sessions.
Why does HAWP exist?
When a task is scattered across a conversation, its scope can drift. HAWP puts the working agreement in a small document that people can revise and hand to another agent or session.
What are the five fields?
The core fields are plain Markdown. Add an optional checkpoint when a pause or handoff needs a clear marker.
- input: the request as received
- context: the background needed
- mission: one concrete objective
- constraints: limits and quality bars
- output: what done looks like
What do the optional tools add?
The optional CLI adds repository search, context packing, MCP access, and work-item tools. The Markdown protocol works without the CLI.
Where can I check the evidence?
The public repository documents the kit, releases, and benchmark results. See the current source for measurements that change over time.
